Support For The Cost Of IVF

The path to parenthood can carry a heavy emotional and financial toll. In some cases, the ATO will consider releasing super for IVF.

IVF cyclesICSIDonor eggs, sperm or embryos

Good to know

For more cycles, you can reuse the same medical reports if they’re no more than 6 months old when you apply.

May Be Eligible When

  • IVF will support treatment of an acute or chronic mental illness, confirmed by a psychiatrist
  • Or it treats another qualifying medical condition

What You’ll Need

  • Reports from a psychiatrist and a registered medical practitioner explaining how IVF supports your mental health
  • An itemised quote from your fertility clinic
  • For donor gametes or embryos: a provider statement that they were acquired altruistically

How we protect your application: IVF applications need specific reports. We confirm the right specialists are reporting before you book appointments, so you don’t pay for reports the ATO can’t use.

Super for Health is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). The ATO decides every application, and approval is not guaranteed. The amount released is based on your itemised quote or invoice.

Super released on compassionate grounds is paid and taxed as a normal super lump sum, must be included in your tax return, and may affect government benefits and insurance held through your super fund. This page is general information only and is not medical, financial or tax advice. Consider your circumstances and speak with your super fund or a licensed adviser.

It is illegal to access super early unless you meet a condition of release. False or misleading statements in an application can attract penalties.

Treatment examples are illustrative. Eligibility depends on your medical circumstances and supporting reports, not on the type of treatment alone.
